部分否定
He’s not always in a good mood.
彼はいつも機嫌がいいわけではない。
He’s always not in good mood.
彼はいつも機嫌がわるい。
Everybody didn’t know the answer.
解釈１：誰もがその答え知らなかった(一人も知らない)。
解釈２：誰もがその答え知っていたわけではない(全員が知らないわけではない)。
Everybodyを強調して話すと２の意味となる。
Nobody everybody knew the answer.
誰もがその答え知らなかった(全否定、解釈１と同じ意味)。
Not everybody knew the answer.
誰もがその答えを知っていたわけではない(部分否定、解釈２と同じ意味)
Your brother is not very polite.
あなたの兄弟はあまり礼儀正しいというわけではない(遠まわし)。
条件つき否定
I can’t do it without his permission.
私は彼の許可なしでそれをできない。
I can’t do it until she comes home.
私は彼女が来るまでそれをできない。
It’s not that I don’t understand how you feel.
私はあなたがどのように感じているか理解できないわけではないんだけど(この文章の後に何か続く感じ)。
What you’re eating is not altogether what it seems.
あなたが食べているものは見かけとは完全に一致しているわけではない。
It’s not altotehter wrong.
完全に間違っているわけではない。
I didn’t realize it until you told me.
私はあなたが言うまでそれに気づかなかった。
