notの作用範囲：基本的に後ろの動詞句を否定

He said she didn’t know the answer.
彼は彼女がその答えを知らないと言った。

He didn’t say she knew the answer.
彼は彼女がその答えを知っていると言わなかった。

She didn’t marry him because he was rich.
解釈１：彼女は彼がお金持ちだから彼と結婚しなかった(notはmarry himを否定)。
解釈２：彼女は彼が金持ちだからという理由で結婚したわけではない(notはmarry him because he was richを否定)

Because he was rich,she didn’t marry him.
彼は金持ちだから、彼女は彼と結婚しなかった(notはmarry himを否定。解釈は１つ)。

She married him not because he was rich.
彼女は彼が金持ちであると理由で彼と結婚したわけではない(notはbecause he was richを否定。解釈は１つ)。

It’s not that I want to go to the party.
私がそのパーティーに行きたいというわけではない。

I hardly know how to do it.
私はそれのやり方をほとんど知らない。

You never agree with me.
あなたは私に同意したことが一度もない。

You seldom agree with me.
あなたは私に同意することがめったにない。
